A Book at the centre of the attention! (Un libro al Centro)

The Province of Rimini grants to the social centres gathering older people two yearly subscriptions to newspapers or magazines at their choice and a voucher to buy a number of books. Social centres can list their requests in a questionnaire and afterwards the Provincial Government directly subscribe to magazines and newspapers and send an order directly to a newspaper kiosk. This project also promotes workshops of autobiographic writing and recovery of the individual and historical memory.

The older people Centre Il Melograno (Bologna) organizes workshops in which elderly people get together for baking bread as a mean for promoting social exchange, new motivations for increasing self-esteem, taking care of themselves and of the others. It aims at widening their own world, a world that can be wide and rich in opportunities for thinking and promoting new actions, contrasting the idea of old age = need and weakness.

AUSER and AVOPRORIT presented their project to the local administration and started the activities in a district with a high density of older people.
Creation of a "transport on demand" system

The project wants to extend the offer of transport for older people, through a system of "transport on demand" able to cater the needs to access health services and opportunities for leisure time. The idea is to start a co-ordination system able to optimise the use of common means of transport thanks to a hot line connecting all those who manage public and private transport: municipalities, health services and voluntary service organisations working at a grass-root level.

Another objective is to involve the organisations AUSER, ANCESCAO and the Social centres for older people that run the projects in other initiatives of social utility.

The project is thought to positively affect the quality of life of older people leaving in the most disadvantaged and isolated areas. It forecasts the delivery of services through the enhancement of the network resources and the possibilities of transportation in order to tackle isolation.

The project operates in the field of foreigner caregivers of not self-sufficient older people hired by the families. The activities wants to deal with the qualification of caregivers and their social visibility. It aims at catering the need of the social inclusion of migrant women and those of the families through an action of tutoring devoted to caregivers.

The project covered the area of the province of Modena involving the Health services and the municipalities: it dealt with the setting up of a system able to forecast the heat waves and start up a support network in order to inform, monitor and assist older people both in their houses and in care centres.
My Home is Safe! (La "mia" casa sicura)

The project carries out a shared regional planning with the aim of assessing the social sustainability of actions in favour of the current and future needs of the older people. In 2003, the "Heat Emergency" showed the need to improve the assistance to chronically ill people through an alarm system and the use of simple technology. The diffuse presence of our domiciliary care services gives us the possibility to report the danger of home accidents. The objective is to monitor our area trying to optimise the network of current services through technology (GIS, domotics…) and human resources (Caregivers, health and social workers, technicians, volunteers)
Older People Resource Centre "Silver Thread" (Centro Risorse Anziani "Filo D'Argento")

Counselling centre devoted to older people with a hot line service and point of distribution of relevant information materials. The centre offers psychological and material support to all those older people who do not want to leave their houses.
Provincial centers for facilitating home-staying of older people (Centri Provinciali per l'adattamento all'ambiente domestico)

The project forecasts the setting up of centres at provincial level with the aim to give assistance and spread information to citizens and social workers thanks to a specialised team including health and social workers and technicians.

In 1/12/2004 in seven different Italian towns (Bresso-Milano; Bologna; Civitanova Marche-Macerata; Firenze; Roma, Eboli-Salerno; Palermo) this project started information help desk in the framework of already running social centres. These desks are meant for older people, their family members and their caregivers to favour the access to social services offered in the different areas. Specifically trained volunteers manage the Help desks: they have access to a user friendly ad hoc data-bank.

These centres organise several activities finalised to favour the socialisation among older persons in order to tackle the risks of exclusion and isolation. These activities are organised in sport centres, clubs and parish churches in order to keep older people in a network of relationship outside their own families.

The project \"Window Over the Courtyard (Finestra sul cortile)\", by Auser Volontariato Emilia Romagna, aims at enhancing participation of older population by encouraging them in re-establishing, supporting and consolidating primary friendly and family relations.
In their role as tutors volunteers help older people to build up relationships and networks with other people at the same age.
